A "Reliance Hassock" Portable Toilet

Many have asked what what we use while OTR, if we are not near any public restrooms, or overnight...& here it is...

Why one of these, & "how" do we use it??? Many reasons!

The main reason, is that I personally *hate*hate*hate* to even *think* about having to lug in a heavy "cassette" part & hate the emptying, too. Then rinsing, then refilling the top part with water, plus, there's the chemicals most add to reduce odor, & help break down solids. No thanks to all of that! LOL

I just line the interior removable bucket with a plastic garbage bag, then pour in a jug of clumping kitty. litter. $4.25 @ a Family Dollar store. Put the seat ring back on it, then the "insert" which serves as a bucket lid, & holds a roll of toilet paper. Lastly, pop on that grey lid, & you've got a nice little "hassock" which you can use as an extra seat, or toss a little. cloth over it, & use it as a mini table!

When its time to use it, after you "go", if liquid, let it sit a few minutes or til you stop again, & use a kitty litter scoop to scoop it out & into a small garbage bag. For solids, we just sift a bit more over it, scoop, then into the garbage bag. As with any kitty litter, we just tie up the bag securely, & into the trash can at any rest area, etc.

There's absolutely no sloshing around, no liquids & chemicals to deal with, no trying to find a public restroom to haul it in to, & since the kitty litter absorbs all liquid, so no odor.

Another biggy for me: $19.95... Brand new... I've never found any other type so cheap! LOL

I'll post a few more photos of the interior, & "putting it back together"!

Any questions, ask away!

  2. We used one of these 20 years ago when we trucked together and now that we are back on the road again were looking to see if they could still be found. Leakproof bags and dumpsters was our best option back then and I am so glad you blogged about the clumping kitty litter. Thanks a bunch and I hope we can find one in stock at a Walmart somewhere since we are not home often enough to order online! Safe travels and keep between the ditches! Lol!

  3. I have one of these great hassock camping potties, and I wondered if anyone else discovered the joy of using kitty litter. You don't have to buy any special substances, there is no odor, and it is a lifesaver in emergencies. This week, I had to shut off the water in my house because of a leaky pipe...and out came the portable kitty litter potty for humans!!
